Red-tailed Hawk Fly By

This is a Red-tailed Hawk that was sitting in a tree off in the distance. It took off and flew right by me. I shot a burst of frames as it passed by and I liked this one because of the wing position out of the series. Photographed with a Canon EOS 1D MkII with a 400mm f/4 DO lens. Exposure 1/1250 @ f/6.3, ISO 400.

  1. Awesome picture thanks for sharing. I watched hawk the other day while sitting a red light right in town fly into a low bush and then come out and keep going in and out as though he was looking for something. When the light turned green and I had to go I caught a glimpse of what he was after a little sparrow. 😦

    • Thanks Lyle, Hawks and Eagles are one of my favorite subjects, but they are getting to be more scarce in my viewfinder. We have a 100 acre Nature reserve close by in Northern NJ with quite a few hawks, Red-tails, coopers, Harriers, etc., but they are not as prominent as they used to be.
