On a trip to Blackwater NWR we came upon this Bold Eagle far off in the distance in the trees. It seemed like an interesting background and looked interesting with all the trees surrounding the Bald Eagle. The Featured Image was a 2 image blend taken with 2 images to include more of the surrounding tree & leaves.

We went for a walk at Davidsons Mill Pond Park to try to find some interesting Dragonflies to photograph. I found quite a few, but most of them were Female Calico Pennant Dragonflies and a few male Pondhawks . The Calico Pennants were in the fields and the Pondhawks were by the upper pond. I was using a Canon 7D with a Canon 300mm lens with a 1.4x teleconverter so with the teleconverter and the 1.6X crop of the 7D, I was at about 672mm if I was using a full frame camera. Some of the images taken were a series of images with different focus points for a controlled focus to have a softer background. I also softened some of the backgrounds on single images for a more “pleasing background” when posting.

A Little Egret 2 image Panorama from a previous visit to J.N. Ding Darling NWR in Florida. The Featured Image is a cropped version to fit better in the Featured Image area. Below is the full 2 vertical images panorama showing the Egret & the Egret’s reflection in the water. Images taken handheld with a Canon 1D mkIV with a 400mm DO lens & 1.4x Teleconverter @ f/8, ISO 3200. I upped the ISO to 3200 because it was early in the morning and the Egret was in the shadows. So it was pretty dark under the trees and I was shooting handheld.

I liked the yellow color of the leaves that were backlit from the sun shining through them. I shot at f/16 to help get a starburst with the sun shining through the leaves for the featured image. This was near the end of one of the paths through the woods at the Park.
