Here are a few more Alligator images from our Florida trip a few years ago to Lake Woodruff NWR. Luckily they were mostly in the water channels along the paths or sunning on the shorelines in the refuge and not on the paths. The Featured image was taken with a Canon 7D with a Tamron 150-600mm @ 220mm.

American Alligators At Ding Darling NWR

This is a series of images featuring American Alligators from a previous visit to the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Florida. Because Alligators are long and thin, it seemed to make sense to photograph them with some panoramas! This way you also limit a lot of empty water areas on top & bottom of the image making your subject alligator more the focus of your image. All images were taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a Canon 7D. The featured image is made from 4 images to fit all of the Alligator in the finished panorama. You also have to photograph your series of images quickly because your subject is actually swimming along as you are photographing them. So by photographing the series quickly it helps to minimize the slight difference in the overlapping images.

Alligator With 1 Eye Open

A couple of Alligator images from Lake Woodruff NWR in Florida. On the featured image the Alligator has 1 eye shut. I did not see it open while I was watching it, so do not know if it was injured. The one below passed by me and was slowly swimming up the channel.

Alligator closeup from the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, Florida. I photographed this alligator from the boardwalk that goes over the water that is filled with alligators. We were there looking at the birds that roost in the trees around the boardwalk. The number of birds roosting close by was amazing. From what we were told the birds feel safe here from predators because of the alligators below, so they build nests very close to the boardwalks. This provides a lot of close by bird photo subjects.
