I am going through images I had not had time to post when I was working. Being retired now I am catching up on images that I wanted to post. These Osprey images are from a previous trip to the Blackwater NWR years ago. The Featured Image was taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a Canon 7D.

The images here are from Winter visits to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge over a few years. The Featured colorful ice image was taken at sunrise with a Sigma 300-800mm lens @ 300mm on a Canon 20D .

I was cleaning up backup Drives and found this panorama taken years ago at the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware. The panorama is made with 6 handheld horizontal images taken with a Canon 1D mkIII with a 24-105mm lens @24mm. Images were aligned & blended in Photoshop. I had previously posted a narrower 4 image version of this years ago, but liked this longer version I found and blended to show more of the landscape on the edges. This image was taken by one of the fields near the entrance to the Refuge. Once in the refuge the clouds were great also as we were traveling the Wildlife Drive.

I was going through Backup Drives to cleanup duplicate files & unneeded images and I found a folder with sunset images from Blackwater NWR. The sunsets at Blackwater NWR can be very colorful and dramatic. The Featured Image was taken with a Canon 15mm Fisheye lens on a Canon 1DmkIII and was taken a little closer to the exit than the image below. The images taken with the 15mm Fisheye were adjusted in Photoshop to remove the “Fisheye” Look & Effect but maintain the wide view.

A sunset image taken a few years ago at the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR, Brigantine Division in New Jersey. We had taken a trip to the Brigantine Division to photograph birds & wildlife, but decided to stay longer to see if it would be an interesting sunset for landscapes. The higher clouds were darkening as the sun went down but we were rewarded with a colorful sunset to photograph lower to the horizon! Image taken with a 24-105mm lens @ 24mm & Canon 1DmkIII.

Another image from a previous trip to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Rookery. An interesting group of Florida birds grouped together in the same tree. Quite often when you see different types of birds in the same tree they are squawking at each other. At the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Rookery they seem to be quite content sharing the same spaces in the trees. Image taken with a 400mm DO lens on a Canon 1D mkIV.

I am cleaning my backup hard drives to remove files to clean up space and to remove files I do not need or duplicates. I found this series of an Osprey fishing at the Celery Farm Natural Area in Allendale, NJ. These were taken at 7 am so there was not a lot of light so I was happy they came out as well as they did because the Canon 1D mkIII was a little “noisy” in low light. The refuge years ago was a Celery Farm and after that they raised carp here before it became a town Natural Area. So you can see a small splash of orange color in the featured image by the Ospreys talons. The Osprey was not able to hold on to the Carp and dropped it before the next image.

On a visit years ago in the Spring to Blackwater NWR there was a lot of activity around the Osprey Nests along the Wildlife Drive. It was in mating season and the Ospreys were busy on the nests. This image was when an other osprey kept trying to get to the nest. On this pass the defending Osprey almost went upside down with claws out defending the nest. Plus there was a lot of screeching of the birds going on. This was the best image of the series because the more it was going up to defend the nest I cut off some of the Osprey in the image. Not sure if there were eggs in the nest or just wanted the nest. Image taken with a 400mm f/4 DO lens with a 1.4x Teleconverter on a Canon 1D mkIII.
