I usually do not photograph some of the smaller birds I see at Wildlife Refuges. Usually they are far off in the distance or are very skittish and fly off. On this trip to the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR these Common Terns were more cooperative. All images here were taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 2X Teleconverter on a Canon 1DmkIV. The last image in the series was actually a panorama shot as it was flying right at me and I wanted to get the right wingtip in also. So I quickly shot a series of images hoping to get the right wingtip in also for my final pano image.

As I was photographing birds out in the water at the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Refuge this Willet flew close by me. I managed to get a few images as it went by.

A series of Red-Tailed Hawk images from a previous trip to the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville, NJ. I got quite a few images of this hawk which seemed very content to pose for me. Usually they fly off, but I was quite a distance away so it did not fly off. I was using a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 1.4x Teleconverter on a Canon 1DmkIV.

A series of 3 images of a close Bald Eagle Fly-By taken at the Blackwater NWR in Maryland. I was using a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 1.4x teleconverter on a Canon 1D mkIV. I shot a series of images as it flew by me but I only used a few images here with the wings up. I seem to see more Bald Eagles at the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge near Cambridge Maryland than any of the other National Wildlife Refuges near me. I also read somewhere that it has the largest population of Bald Eagles in the Northeast.

I was going through images from a previous trip to the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge near Oceanville, NJ. This is a series of images of an Osprey that flew fairly close by me with nesting material. I was out of the car & on the Wildlife Drive which enabled me to follow the Osprey as it flew by. All images were taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 1.4x teleconverter on a Canon 1D mkIV.

These images are from a trip to J.N. Ding Darling NWR a few years ago. We were walking early in the morning along the Wildlife Drive looking for birds that might be feeding in the water channels along the Drive. We came upon this White Ibis in the one of the channels. It did not take long before it found a meal. Images taken with a Canon 1D mkIV, 400mm Canon DO lens & Canon 1.4X Teleconverter.
