A closeup image of a Juvenile Tricolored Heron that I photographed early in the morning years ago as it was foraging in the shallow water along the Wildlife Drive at J.N. Ding Darling NWR in Sanibel, Florida. You can get quite a few closeup images early in the morning as the wading birds are foraging for their morning meal along the Drive. This was an older Juvenile as it’s reddish neck with spots of reddish feathers on their wings and upper back were starting to turn to the darker blue color. I was using a 400mm Canon DO lens with a 1.4X Teleconver on a Canon 1D mkIV.

I photographed this Great Blue Heron at a local Wildlife Area where I used to live many years ago. It was on the shoreline early in the am along the path and I took a few photos and went on my way so not to bother the Heron. Image taken at 7am with a Canon 400mm DO lens, 1.4x Teleconverter on a Canon 1D mkIV. I had the lens f/stop set wide open @ f/5.6 to get a softer smoother background. Because I had a 1.4x Teleconverter on the 400mm DO lens my lens aperture wide open went from f/4 to f/5.6.

The Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge usually has a large amount of Snow Geese in March so it is fun to photograph the large groups of them especially in flight. On this visit I was on the Wildlife Drive looking at some small birds down by the water. A large group of Snow Geese took flight a little ways from where I was on the Wildlife Drive and were flying towards me. This image was taken as they were flying by me and then reversed direction and went back from where they took off.

Images are from a trip to the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR in Oceanville, NJ. There are many Osprey Platforms scattered along the Wildlife Drive at Brigantine to get interesting images of Ospreys in and near their nests. Also you can see them flying into the Platform to feed the young and get interesting Osprey nest images if you have long lenses. The Images here are along the first straight away upon entering the Wildlife Drive with Atlantic City blurred in the background. The images were taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a Canon 2X Teleconverter on a Canon 1DmkIV.
