Usually you see Damselflies and Dragonflies catching a meal, but usually they are small insects. This male Ebony Jewelwing Damselfly caught a fairly large bug, for its size, and took a while to finish it. Or maybe it just looked big compared to the small damselfly. I have seen Dragonflies eating a large variety of insects including other Dragonflies and Damselflies.

I have noticed an Ebony Jewelwing Broad-Winged Damselfly around my pond the last few weeks, but I thought they were just passing through. The last few days I noticed it was around all the time. Sometimes in an evergreen tree, or in the bushes, but it keeps moving around. It also very skittish when you get too close get a photo. I noticed it on a leaf where I was weeding around the pond. I finally got a few quick shots before it moved again. I could not get too close because of where it was sitting on the Redtwig Dogwood. The sun was backlighting the wings which are usually entirely black, but lets you see the fine textures in the wing & the body is metallic green. This is one of the larger damselflies and is in the Broad-Winged category. Other damselflies have smaller thinner bodies and finer, thiner wings.
