I found 4 Ospreys fighting over this nest on an Osprey Platform along the Wildlife Drive. 2 Males & 2 Females. I assume it was about the nest, but maybe a territorial dispute. Thy were fun to watch as it went on for over 10 minutes. Most of the action was either very high in the sky or far away over the water. Even if I could not get a lot of close shots, it was fun to watch the action.

A little while ago we traveled to the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR, Brigantine Division in Oceanville NJ. There was a lot of activity along the Wildlife Drive. There are many Osprey platforms along the Drive, a few additional had been added over the last few years. This is the first time I saw all of them being used with Ospreys nesting on them. Along with the nests in the refuge not on the platforms. Because of this, the Ospreys were seen throughout the refuge with many flying quite close and overhead giving many good photo opportunities. Soon, if not now, their eggs will be hatching giving even more photo opportunities. They will be flying to and from the nests, bringing food for the young birds. Here is an adult male on the ground after catching a fish, taking off to bring the fish to the platform to eat.

Here are a few photos taken at dusk as the sun was setting adding a warm color to the scene. The birds were settling down for the evening, American White Pelicans, Roseate Spoonbills, Egrets, Cormorants and others made an interesting mix. Also Ospreys flying in the colorful warm colored sky back to their nests. Many other birds were flying overhead heading to where they roost. At Ding Darling, the busiest time for photos is Dawn to early morning, then later in the evening as the sun sets. We usually go throughout the day, seeing individual birds or a few here and there in groups. This gives you the opportunity to get closeup images, detail shots or even head shots. Also there are many opportunities for flight shots. The opening photo is a 4 shot panorama stitched together manually in Photoshop.
