It seems like Great Blue Herons just glide along in flight for being such a large bird. They do have quite a wide wingspan from ~ 5.5 to 6.6 ft. They can cruise @ 20-30 miles per hour. So they are fun photo subjects especially if they are flying around a small lake and you have long lenses!
Misty Morning @ The Celery Farm Nature Area

The Celery Farm is a small 107 acre freshwater wetland in Allendale, NJ. There is a small lake, Lake Appert, so there is a wide range of birds to photograph in a somewhat confined environment. There has been 240 bird species sighted here with 53 species breeding there. The best times for photos were early morning and early evening. I used to like photographing Ospreys fishing here in the afternoon. The most I had seen there was 6 at the same time circling above. With the small lake it was great for photographers to get Ospreys diving in the lake for fish. Years ago it was a carp farm, so it was strange to see them flying off many times with a bright orange fish! If you walk the trails you can also find a wide range of birds and mammals. So you have a lot of photo opportunities in a relatively small area. Especially for flying birds.
Cormorants In Early Morning Sunrise

I was going through & cleaning up some backup hard drives. I found these images of Cormorants that were taken at a local small Wildlife Area where we used to live. The featured image is a 2 shot panorama of a Cormorant taking flight in the early morning sunrise. Images taken with a Sigma 300-800mm lens @ 800mm.
Incoming Canada Goose

I usually do not photograph Canada Geese, but I thought this one coming right at me was an interesting view. It was strange seeing it looking at me as I was photographing it. This was taken years ago with the Sigma 300-800mm lens @ 800mm. Watching it coming at me I was wondering when it would turn. It finally did but was fairly close when it did turn.
Great Egret Gliding By

An image of a Great Egret flying by at a local wildlife area near where I used to live. It had a small lake so you had a good chance of getting close images of a variety of birds flying by. They also placed branches in the shallower water for the birds to land on for more chances to get some interesting images.

Still going through my Backup Hard Drives for interesting images to post because of the stay at home order in NJ. Also helps to clear images not needed anymore and makes it easier to find images I want. Supposedly they will be lessening the stay at home order soon! This is an early morning, quickly taken, 2 image Panorama of a Cormorant taking flight from some branches in the water. 2 images shot @ 800mm and assembled in Photoshop. I liked the Black Cormorant against the warm colors of the sunrise in the water. Below another Cormorant, different Snag & Day – The Celery Farm Natural Area, Allendale, NJ.

Mute Swans

Here are a series of Swan images that I photographed years ago. Many are from a very small Natural Area near where I used to live. Since it had a small lake there were many times you could get nice frame filling images of them. I know many do not like Mute Swans, but I thought they were interesting photo subjects and were fun to photograph.

I am going through files looking for images I had not posted before. These are from a local wildlife area where we used to live. Early in the morning hundreds of blackbirds would fly out at sunrise. With the colorful sky and clouds it was an interesting sight to see, plus the sound was interesting also.
