Wonderful closeups and variety!
Thanks Belinda! They are some of my favorite photo subjects in the Summer! Plus you are always looking for some you have not photographed before. Also they are fun to try very closeup images of them or panoramas & focus stacking. And sometimes they even cooperate for those closeups!
Great photo’s, you’re using a tele instead of a macro lens because of the distance ?
Thanks Pedro! I have used both, but lately I use a close focusing 300mm lens. Some times it works better because you have more working distance and some Dragons are very skiddish. This way I do not scare them off. Also gives me a greater depth of field. If I get that close with say, a 150mm macro, I need to stop down more or risk that it will just fly away. If you do a search on my blog for 400mm dragonflies you will see a 400mm setup with extension tubes and teleconverter to get detailed closeups at quite a distance. Lately I am just using a 300mm with a 1.4x teleconverter.
